In health care, keeping standards of care high is what protects the public. For registered nurses in Arizona, licence renewal is by continued-competency attestation rather than fixed CE hours; for the care roles around them, a valid CPR and first-aid certificate is a hiring condition. Here is what the rules expect for your role — and how recognized, up-to-date, documented training meets it.

The Arizona State Board of Nursing (AZBN) requires nurses to remain competent to practise, but does so through a continued-competency model rather than a fixed continuing-education tally. At renewal, a nurse self-attests to recent practice, a refresher course, or recent graduation, subject to audit.

The nursing standard of care still carries a professional duty to maintain competence and to be able to respond in an emergency, including initiating resuscitation. A recognized, documented certificate is the practical way to evidence that a nurse can act when it counts.

Arizona does not set a state-wide mandatory CE-hours standard for these professions; renewal is by self-attested continued competency (recent practice hours, a refresher course, or recent graduation), subject to audit. Keeping skills current is still expected and largely employer-driven — a CPR/BLS course does not, on its own, satisfy a licensure-CE requirement, because no such hour count exists.
