Online first aid courses

Arizona follows the federal OSHA rule (29 CFR 1910.151(b)), enforced by the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH): no fixed ratio, but employers must keep enough adequately trained first-aiders on staff, commensurate with the workplace hazards. OSHA interprets 'near proximity' as a 3-to-4-minute response time in high-hazard settings and up to 15 minutes in low-hazard settings.

Arizona Administrative Code R9-5-403 (and R9-5-301(G)), enforced by the Department of Health Services' Bureau of Child Care Licensing, requires a staff member to hold first aid and CPR training specific to infants and children, present in the center and on field trips. The CPR demonstration may be completed virtually, and online courses are accepted.

Ariz. Rev. Stat. § 32-1471 grants immunity from civil liability to any person who renders emergency care at the scene gratuitously and in good faith, with gross negligence as the one boundary of that shield. There is no legal duty to rescue, and AED users, acquirers, trainers and supervising physicians have limited immunity under Ariz. Rev. Stat. § 36-2262.

The Arizona State Board of Nursing (AZBN) renews nurse licences by self-attested continued competency (recent practice, a refresher course, or recent graduation, subject to audit) rather than a fixed CE-hours tally, so a CPR/BLS course does not on its own satisfy a licensure requirement. For the care roles around nurses, a valid CPR and first-aid certificate is a hiring condition and the practical way to evidence readiness to respond.

Arizona rules require managers of assisted living facilities and homes — licensed under the Arizona Administrative Code by the Department of Health Services — to obtain current documentation that a caregiver has first-aid and CPR training before that caregiver provides care to residents. A recognized, up-to-date certificate meets this obligation, in addition to occupational training, and must be renewed periodically.

Under Arizona Administrative Code R21-6-303 (Training Requirements), foster-parent applicants must be CPR- and first-aid certified before a license is issued, with CPR skills demonstrated by an instructor certified through a nationally recognized association and first-aid taught by a qualified instructor or licensed medical professional. The requirement is administered by the Department of Child Safety (DCS), Office of Licensing and Regulation, and evidence of current certification must be presented on an ongoing basis.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Arizona for personal, childcare-licensing, and employer purposes, with no explicit ban for the workplace requirement, though OSHA recommends a hands-on skills-demonstration component (especially for CPR). Certification is valid for 2 years.
